Hi there! I’m Emma. Growing up I was always a lover of performing, making many full theatrical performances in my living room. My first official time on stage was playing Snow White in my 5th grade musical. Since then I have gotten to perform in many more productions and have been so blessed to have created so much wonderful art with so many wonderful people.

As a student at JMU I get to create so much wonderful art on and off the stage. Acting, singing, directing, props designing, scenic designing, and writing on the JMU Mainstage and Studio Theatres!

During the summer I am a Director at Alexandria Children's Theatre in Alexandria VA where I lead various Theatre camps for kids ages 6-12.

Outside of theatre I am a big movie watcher (watching over 50 this past year). I'm a huge fan of emotional Pop Rock music, with Jagged Little Pill being my favorite album of all time. I am also a notorious wearer of crazy jeans.

Multidisciplinary Artistry.

My first time designing was in High School when I Prop Designed for my school's production of Puffs a show I also performed in!

As an educator I want my students to be able to be creative in many different artforms and not put them in a box. My strength as an artist comes from my versatility and I feel I have grown so much stronger by continuing to not limit my creativity and what kind of artist I am seen as.

Weird Art!

My definition of "Weird Art" would be art that is nontraditional and pushes boundaries of what is usually expected.

I have had the pleasure of working on so many unique projects including Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind a show created by the Neofuturists that has 30 short plays that are pulled off of a number line and performed in a random order in under an hour. This show completely changed my perception of what theatre is and taught me so much as performer about being engaged and flexible with the performance.

I also got to work as a Scenic Designer on Mr. Burns- A Post Electric Play. Mr. Burns is a 3 Act play that takes place over 75 years. It starts with tells the story of people retelling Simpsons episodes to cope after an apocalypse and eventually devolves into a Simpsons Rock Opera. For my design I designed to paint the floor of the theatre with Simpsons Graphiti. This design felt so different than anything I have ever made before, and made me reflect on the purpose of theatre and what I want to say with my art.
